Imagine Duluth 2035 Hosts Second Round of Focus Groups

[Duluth, MN] – Imagine Duluth 2035 will host its second round of focus groups this week. City staff will provide the research to questions that came from the first round of focus groups in the fall of 2016. Members of the public are encouraged to attend.

“In this round, focus groups will identify policies that are needed to further develop the City of Duluth, while preserving our natural and open spaces, delivery of public services and layout of public infrastructure.” Community Planning Division Director Keith Hamre said. “These policies will then be compared to the guiding principles in the Comprehensive Plan and will start to shape the chapters of Imagine Duluth 2035.”

Vision Committee member Lee Stuart said “Getting community input and feedback from all sectors and groups in a community is critical to any legitimate planning process.  Inclusion is a prerequisite to equity, and justice requires that those who will be impacted by policies and plans have a say in what those policies and plans contain. The City has made a commendable effort to do just that.”

Economic Development focus group member Deb DeLuca said of her experience, “We recognize the importance of sharing our unique vantage point and explaining the economic opportunities (that the Duluth Seaway Port Authority) brings to the region, while also understanding other stakeholder needs and perspectives. We encourage all Duluthians to take a seat at the table.”

The focus groups are scheduled for the following dates and times:

-          Economic Development, March 7th, 5p.m.  Green Room, Duluth Public Library, 520 West Superior St.

-          Housing, March 7th, 5p.m. at Harrison Community Center, 3002 West 3rd St.

-          Transportation, March 8th, 5p.m. Green Room, Duluth Public Library, 520 West Superior St.

-          Open Space, March 9th, 5p.m. Bagley Nature Center Area Classroom on the University of Minnesota Duluth campus

All of the focus groups are open to the public.

ABOUT IMAGINE DULUTH 2035

The City of Duluth’s Community Planning Division is updating its comprehensive plan. A comprehensive plan is a road map for future development of a community.
