City and Police Union Reach Tentative Agreement

The City of Duluth and the Police Union Executive Board and have reached a tentative agreement for the year 2010.  This is a one year agreement with no salary increases.

The membership will meet to discuss the tentative agreement at an August 10th meeting at 5:00 PM.  A vote to ratify the agreement will follow.

Mayor Ness sees this agreement as a positive first step.  “I am pleased with this effort to establish a respectful working relationship with the Police Union and to continue our efforts to achieve long-term fiscal stability for the City.  I appreciate the Union's commitment to work with the administration to promote our shared goal of strengthening the organization."

Police Union President, Jon Haataja, agrees with the Mayor that “This is a step towards establishing a collaborative working relationship.  With the uncertainty in both the economy and the State’s upcoming budget, including the impact on Local Government Aid, this was an economically rational approach for both parties.”
