BY: Assistant Chief Chris Martinson

NATURE OF INCIDENT: Structure Fire
CASE NO.: 17-004648
INCIDENT DATE: 5/5/2017
INCIDENT TIME: 05:25
INCIDENT LOCATION: 40 Burger Drive

This morning the Duluth Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 40 Burger Drive, upon arrival #10 Engine from the Gary fire station found a heavy volume of smoke with a confirmed report of an elderly female and dog still in the trailer home.  The fire crew entered the trailer and immediately went into search and rescue mode and was soon assisted by #8 Quint from the West Duluth fire station. There was initially some difficulty finding the woman due to the nature of the layout and storage in the trailer but this obstacle was quickly overcome by Duluth Firefighters and the woman and the dog were found and brought outside of the home. The woman was conscious as she was brought out and she was transported by Gold Cross ambulance to St. Lukes hospital, the dog appeared to be in good health as well.

Firefighters then completely put out the fire and checked for extension throughout the home. 19 firefighters responded to this fire and remained on scene for around an hour and a half with one civilian injury due to being trapped in the home. Initial damage estimate is $40,000 dollars to the home and contents. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time and any further information will be released by the Duluth Fire Marshal's office.
