“Mr. Johnson has expertise in technology management and business systems engineering which will greatly benefit the City as it considers advanced business management systems to help improve city programs and customer service,” said Chief Administrative Officer David Montgomery.

Mr. Johnson comes to the City with over 14 years of experience in technology and systems management. He currently works at Nicolet Technical College, in Rhinelander, Wisconsin where he was Director of Information Technology. While at Nicolet, Mr. Johnson oversaw the implementation of 26 projects that addressed efficiencies, standardization, and a fiscal assessment of the College’s technological infrastructure.

Mr. Johnson previously worked at Cirrus Design Corporation as the Executive Director of Information Technology. Mr. Johnson oversaw the technological infrastructure and business process redesign, led cross-functional teams, and served as a technical architect for the development and implementation of various business systems.

“I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to mature the City’s information systems.   Our internal IT systems and operations play a critical role in the daily success of our City.   Developing and aligning business systems requirements with an efficient business process will allow us to work towards improving customer service. I am excited to work with a team that is dedicated to providing quality public service,” said Paul Johnson.

Mr. Johnson is a Duluth native and is a member of the Northland Technology Consortium, the Americas SAP User Group, the Duluth CIO’s, Wisconsin Technical College System CIO’s and the College of St. Scholastica Deans Advisory Council.

Mr. Johnson’s appointment will be presented to the City Council for approval on April 26, 2010.  Once approved, Mr. Johnson would start his new position on May, 10 2010
