INCIDENT LOCATION: 1300 block of Commonwealth Avenue

On Tuesday, May 30th, 2017, investigators from the Lake Superior Drug and Violent Crime Task Force attempted to stop a motor vehicle in the 1300 block of Commonwealth Avenue in the City of Duluth.  The Task Force had been conducting an investigation into the suspected sale of heroin by the occupants of that vehicle.  During the attempted stop, the driver attempted to flee in his vehicle, ramming his vehicle into a task force vehicle. Several other task force vehicles were able to box the suspect vehicle in, and investigators detained the two occupants of the vehicle. The driver was identified by investigators as 22 year old Tyler Cletus Garner, of Duluth and the passenger was identified by investigators as 21 year old John Eugene Knox, of Chicago, IL.  While damage was sustained to both the suspect vehicle and task force vehicle involved, there were no injuries to either suspects or investigators.

Investigators obtained a search warrant to search Garner, Knox and the motor vehicle they were in. During the search investigators recovered approximately 4 grams of heroin, $383 U.S. Currency, drug packaging and drug paraphernalia.  Garner and Knox were arrested by investigators and lodged at the St. Louis County Jail.

On Friday, June 2nd, 2017, the St. Louis County Attorney’s Office formally charged Tyler Garner with Aid and Abet 2nd Degree Sale of a Controlled Substance and Fleeing Police in a Motor Vehicle and John Knox with 2nd Degree Sale of a Controlled Substance. Bail for Garner and Knox was set at $25,000 each.
