Duluth Road and Utility Updates as of August 28

[Duluth, MN] - The City of Duluth is making full use of the short construction season and making progress on road and utility projects before the onset of winter. The improvements will enable dependable and improved gas services and road conditions.

Gas line projects:

East 4th Street:  The 4th Street gas project still has pavement and sidewalk restoration work going on but the roads and driveway entrances (witch exception of one residence where a catch basin is being repaired) are open and usable.  No further detours or traffic interruptions are expected on 4th street between Wallace Ave and 34th Ave East.

London Road:  36th Avenue East is closed starting today for 2 to 3 weeks as the gas project progresses.  A detour will be signed for motorists headed into Duluth to use 32nd Ave East as the alternative route.  Please drive slowly and use caution. The project extends from 35th Ave to 40th Ave East and should be fully completed in early October.

Kenwood Ave

Watch for work to start next week at Kenwood Ave and College St. in the Kenwood neighborhood. Starting August 29, crews will be milling one lane at a time on Kenwood to prepare the surface for paving. This work will shift traffic but will not close the road. Barring any weather delays, the paving should be completed by Friday, September 1st. Motorists should plan for extra time or consider an alternate route as there may be delays during normal commuting hours.

Anyone needing access to the College of St. Scholastica should continue to use the Benedictine Circle entry point until this project is completed.

Irving Place pavement rehabilitation project:

The concrete pavement rehabilitation improvements on Irving Place are underway and should be complete by late September.

The City reminds all motorists to slow down, use caution and be alert when driving near construction zones.
