Employment law workshop to be

held April 30

 

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) will be presenting at a workshop “EEOC Grab Bag of Hot Employment Topics” on Friday, April 30, 2010 from 9:00 to 10:30 AM at the Central Hillside Community Center, 12 East Fourth Street in Duluth. This workshop is free and open to the public.

 

The workshop presenter is Maria E. Flores from the EEOC Milwaukee Office. The workshop will include:

·        an overview of EEO laws,

·        employer responsibilities, 

·        age discrimination,

·        arrest and conviction records,

·        changes to the Americans with Disabilities Act,

·        an overview of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act,

·        Caregiver discrimination,

·        religious harassment,

·        racial bias and definitions of race and color

 

Ms. Flores, a Program Manager since 1999, is responsible for coordinating and conducting EEO training, education outreach, and technical assistance throughout five of the six Midwest states. She is a respected speaker and trainer to diverse audiences on numerous employment discrimination issues. Ms. Flores began her career in 1991 as the first bilingual investigator and has specialized in investigating class action and systemic discrimination cases.

 

The EEOC is a partner in workplace solutions and encourages education and mediation to protect individual freedoms and to reduce expensive litigation.
