Annual September Adopt-a-Beach Cleanup on Saturday, Sept 23
Thousands of volunteers to join regional day of action for the Great Lakes
This weekend, Duluth volunteers will be hitting the beach to participate in the largest Great Lakes cleanup day of the year: September Adopt-a-Beach. From Lake Superior to Lake Ontario, and everywhere in between, Adopt-a-Beach volunteers will comb their local shorelines to pick up litter. The September Adopt-a-Beach is an initiative of the Alliance for the Great Lakes, a regional organization that works to protect the Great Lakes for today and tomorrow.
Local organizations participating in clean-ups include Harbor City International School, the Lake Superior Zoo, Duluth Area Geocachers, Duluth Area Family YMCA Little Y Program, OutsideInDuluth.com, Girl Scout Troup #4174, Temple Israel, Water Resource Students in Action, and the Boys and Girls Club of the Northland’s Torch Club. Groups will be cleaning along the Lakewalk, Bayfront, Brighton Beach and Park Point. For a complete listing of local events, please go to www.greatlakesadopt.org.
City of Duluth Parks and Recreation, in partnership with Canal Park Brewing Company, will be out cleaning along the Lakewalk from Canal Park to Fitger’s tomorrow, Saturday, September 23, rain or shine from 10am-11:30am. If individuals or families are interested in joining the effort, they are encouraged to register at www.greatlakesadopt.org/Secure/Event/12621. As a thank you to participants, Canal Park Brewing Company is hosting an after-party at the brewery. Participants will receive a free drink token to use at the brewery.
