The Duluth Police Department in collaboration with Program for Aid to Victims of Sexual Assault (PAVSA) was awarded a grant for $433,350 for a period of three years beginning October 1, 2017 until September 30, 2020.  This grant was awarded by the U.S. Bureau of Justice Assistance, Office on Violence Against Women through the Improving Criminal Justice Responses to Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, and Stalking Grant Program.  The grant will be used to fund an additional investigator in the police department’s Sex Crimes Abuse and Neglect Unit, a protocol enhancement consultant from PAVSA to work with our investigators on sexual assault response, and to provide additional training for investigators on best practices for sexual assault investigations.  The funding will also be utilized to create a sexual assault response manual, pocket guide, and training materials for officers and investigators.  The Duluth Police Department is excited to be working on another project to improve our response to victim survivors of sexual assault with our great community partner PAVSA.
