Mayor Emily Larson issues statement in response to the Governor’s bonding bill
[Duluth, MN] - "This is primarily a statewide proposal, with very little evidence of local projects or need. Through this 2018 Public Works Bill, Governor Dayton has outlined his commitment to the role of state government to support higher education, state agencies and water infrastructure. This is good, since these are areas Minnesotans rely heavily on. It’s important to note that the Governor’s priorities to fund affordable housing and transportation infrastructure benefit communities like Duluth, as witnessed a couple of weeks ago with the announcement of two state transportation grants for Waseca Industrial Park and Kayak Bay Road and our announcement last fall of $17 million to affordable housing projects in Duluth."
"In an additional document, Governor Dayton clearly outlines his support for our projects (Steam Plant and the Seawalls), as well as other projects around the state, as being ones that merit state investment. We know from past experience that being on the Governor’s list, or that of the House or Senate, is not a guarantee for funding. We’ll go down to St. Paul with our same plan of action: to engage, educate and connect. We have an opportunity ahead of us this legislative session and we will be persistent in lifting up the needs of Duluth,” said Duluth Mayor Emily Larson
