Why Treaties Matter Exhibit in Duluth this week

[Duluth, MN] - The Duluth Indigenous Commission and the Minnesota Indian Affairs Council are partnering to host an educational exhibit titled "Why Treaties Matter" in Duluth City Hall, First floor rotunda. The traveling display of 20 panels will be available for public viewing starting today, February 5 through February 9, 2018 between the hours of 8 AM and 5 PM. This display has traveled to various Minnesota communities since 2011.

According to the organizer's website, the exhibit "demonstrates how Dakota and Ojibwe treaties with the U.S. government affected the lands and lifeways of the Indigenous peoples of the place now called Minnesota and why these binding agreements between nations still matter today."

A member of the Duluth Indigenous Commission will be on site and available to answer questions every day this week from 8-10 AM and from 3-5 PM.

Detailed history about the treaties exhibit is available at, http://treatiesmatter.org/exhibit/welcome/ The exhibit was created through a partnership between the Minnesota Humanities Center, the Minnesota Indian Affairs Council, and the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian.
