Duluth’s Cold Front February Kick Off Celebration a Success

Deals and Events Continue for Rest of February

[Duluth, MN] - Duluth’s first Cold Front February kick off celebration on February 1-4, 2018 was declared a success in activating a vacant parking lot, igniting people's love for winter recreation despite below freezing temperatures and creatively engaging over 1800 community members from all over the city and region. The event was planned with a large contingency including the City of Duluth, Zeitgeist Center for Arts & Community, the Duluth Transit Authority, the Canal Park Business Association, Visit Duluth, Greater Downtown Council, 8 80 Cities, and many other local restaurants and retailers.

During the multi-day Celebration, thrill seekers tested out Duluth’s first ice skating track along the lakeshore, had fun sledding on the luge track, listened to great music from Big Wave Dave, toasted marshmallows and even extended their spiritual and physical limits with outdoor snow yoga during blowing snow. Food vendors, beer samples, and pop up shops provided nourishment and locally made crafts.

"I am proud of our community for being fearless and demonstrating that Duluth does not hibernate during the coldest months of the year. This was an inaugural celebration but I am confident that this will not be our last. Thank you to our organizing team and citizens who braved frigid temperatures for some bold fun," said Mayor Emily Larson.

Leading the effort was City Council President Elissa Hansen. "I want to extend a big thank you to our committee of dedicated organizers. We received great reviews and honest feedback from attendees and are excited to report that over 1800 people from Duluth neighborhoods and outside of the Twin Ports area came out to enjoy fun and free creative activities. We couldn't have ventured down this path were it not for support from the Knight Cities Challenge grant. Duluthians have proven that they know how to do winter fun!"

The Cold Front celebration continues for the entire month of February! Please check out www.coldfrontduluth.com for a complete listing of events and special Cold Front offers.
