At 0652 this morning, the Duluth Fire Department responded to report of a possible house on fire at 1015 N. 6th Avenue East. Initial arriving fire companies reported heavy smoke coming from a small single story residence.

The fire was generally contained to a main floor bedroom, with some extension through an exterior wall to the attic. Fire companies from headquarters and UMD fire stations extinguished the blaze in minutes. Crews remained on the scene for approximately two hours to assist the fire investigator and secure the building, which is not tenable.

No one was home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported. The origin and cause remains under investigation by the Duluth Fire Marshal's office. The damage to the structure is estimated at $30,000, and the contents damage is estimated at $15,000.
