Duluth to Celebrate National Community Development Week
[Duluth, MN] - The public is invited to join the City of Duluth’s Community Planning Division for a National Community Development Week Open House on Thursday, April 5th. The City and community will celebrate accomplishments and impacts of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding in Duluth and to connect with community partners and elected officials.
Open House details:
April 5th, 2018, from 1:30-2:30 p.m., at Life House (102 W First Street).
Refreshments will be provided. All are welcome.
Duluth first received CDBG funds in 1974. Today, Duluth receives about $3 million in CDBG, Home Investment Partnership, and Emergency Solutions Grant funds annually. The mission of the City’s Community Development Program is to invest in programs that help low-to-moderate income people by addressing basic needs, providing affordable housing, and increasing economic self-sufficiency.
CDBG funds make a significant difference in Duluth and support local programs that provide important services, including:
- food pantries and soup kitchens
- job training and support
- housing rehabilitation and development
- homeless shelters
- improvements to neighborhood centers and park facilities
Programs like these have made tremendous contributions to housing stock, infrastructure, public services, and the overall economic vitality of our community. CDBG funding is a key piece of the continuation of these efforts in Duluth.
