INCIDENT LOCATION: 1005 Glen Place Drive
At 1330 hours today, the Duluth Fire Department responded to report of a structure fire at 1005 Glen Place Drive , Summit Square Apartments. Upon arrival, crews found a large volume of smoke from two top floor apartments on the south east side of the building.
The fire extended from the outside deck into the deck roof and dividing wall for the two apartments. Fire crews stopped the fire from extending into the roof structure.
Initial damage estimates are $15,000 for the structure and $500 for contents.
The Duluth Fire Marshal's office investigated the fire and stated it was accidental in nature due to a carelessly discarded cigarette. The Duluth Fire Department strongly urges residents to put a discarded cigarette in water or sand to make sure it is completely out.
Fire companies from, Headquarters Station , Lincoln Park Station , West Duluth Station responded to the fire.
