On April 2nd, 2018, Michael Wayne Olson, 53, of Duluth, was sentenced in St. Louis County District Court to 110 months incarceration after pleading guilty to 1st Degree Sale of a Controlled Substance. Olson had been charged in December of 2017 after an investigation by the Lake Superior Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, Duluth Police Department and St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office into Olson being involved in the sale of controlled substances in Duluth. During the investigation, police executed search warrants at a residence in the 600 block of North 22nd Avenue West and a motor vehicle used by Olson. Investigators recovered approximately 42 grams of methamphetamine, including methamphetamine that was buried on the property of the residence, drug packaging and a drug sales ledger.
Olson is a recidivist drug dealer in the Duluth area and has previous controlled substance convictions in Minnesota for 1st Degree Sale of a Controlled Substance (2010), 3rd Degree Possession of a Controlled Substance and Fleeing Police in a Motor Vehicle (2005), 4th Degree Possession of a Controlled Substance (2005), 2nd Degree Controlled Substance Crime (2002), 5th Degree Sale of Marijuana (1996), 3rd Degree Sale of LSD, 3rd Degree Sale of Cocaine and 5th Degree Sale of Marijuana (1991). Olson had been released from incarceration for his 2010 drug sales conviction in February of 2017 prior to his most recent arrest by the Task Force.
