NATURE OF INCIDENT: Structure Fire
CASE NO.: 18005052
INCIDENT DATE: 5/25/2018
INCIDENT TIME: 03:55
INCIDENT LOCATION: 302 Thurber Rd.
At 03:55 hours today, the Duluth Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 302 Thurber Rd. Upon arrival of a DPD officer, a report of the attached garage fully engulfed in fire and it moving quickly towards the house and all occupants out of the home was given. Fire crews found this same description as initial fire crews came onto the scene. This area has no hydrants in the vicinity so a mutual aid call request to Rice Lake fire, 148th Air Guard fire, Lakewood fire and Hermantown fire was sent out and this call was answered very quickly and without this help the outcome of this fire would have been vastly different.
The fire was kept to the garage area and the home was saved, the garage and cars inside and all contents in it were a total loss, the home suffered some smoke and soot and slight water damage only. Damage estimates are $100,000 for the structure and $75,000 for contents.
The Duluth Fire Marshal's office is investigating as to origin and cause of the fire.
Fire companies from, Miller Mall Station , Headquarters Station , UMD Station , Woodland Station responded to this fire.
There were no reported firefighter or civilian injuries. One of the homeowners was checked over and released by Gold Cross ambulance due to possible smoke inhalation.
No further information is available at this point and any further statement will be released from the Duluth Fire Marshal’s office.
