City of Duluth Hosts Community Meeting to Identify Needs
[Duluth, MN] – The City of Duluth’s Community Planning Division will be hosting a Community Needs Assessment Meeting on June 6th from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Damiano Center, 206 West 4th Street.
“Each year, we are tasked with looking at the needs of our community, and to do that we go the most important resource, our residents. We want to hear what residents are seeing and experiencing on a day to day basis,” said Community Planning Director Keith Hamre. “Understanding existing and emerging needs related to housing, neighborhood stability, basic needs, and increasing household incomes is crucial in determining how funding priorities should be established.”
Ideas and information collected from this meeting will help to determine priorities for funds that the City receives from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The City receives approximately $3 million from HUD annually to assist people with low and moderate incomes and serve neighborhoods where a majority of low and moderate income people reside.
The funding is part of three funding sources from HUD: Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), HOME Investment Partnership (HOME), and Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG). These funds have supported programs that provide rental and homeowner assistance, job training, business growth, neighborhood facility improvements, homeless services, and other public services.
In addition to this meeting, a Community Needs Survey is available online at http://bit.ly/CommDevDLH
