Three Blocks of West Michigan Street to Convert to Two Way

(18th Avenue West to 21st Avenue West, Lincoln Park Business District)

[Duluth, MN] –  The City of Duluth is planning to convert three blocks of West Michigan Street in Lincoln Park from one to two way travel to improve access and traffic circulation; directly connect people to area businesses and services; and lessen confusion for motorists. Michigan Street is already two-way on either end of the project area.

The conversion was introduced in early 2018 and approved by the Duluth City Council in May. The work will involve signage changes and centerline striping. Please reference the map.

The field work to make the conversions will take place Wednesday, June 20th, and will begin after 9 am. The intent will be to complete the conversions by the end of the day but will be weather dependent. City crews will start at 21st Avenue West and work their way east. Each block will be closed to through traffic during the conversion. Local traffic will be able to access off-street parking spaces; however, there will be no access to on-street parking. The avenues in the project area will remain open to traffic.

The public is reminded to drive carefully and be alert to travel direction of other vehicles.
