Water Main Valve Replacements Start in Woodland, Lincoln Park and
Gary New Duluth Neighborhoods

[Duluth, MN] – The City of Duluth Public Works and Utilities department is notifying residents of multiple water main valve replacement projects taking place in the Woodland, Lincoln Park, and Gary New Duluth neighborhoods. This project will repair and install new water main valves to improve water service in preparation for upcoming Minnesota Department of Transportation, City of Duluth, and St. Louis County road reconstruction projects planned for summer 2019.  The water main in certain areas will need to be shutdown to complete the work and will occur at various times and locations during the day over the next 4 months (weather permitting) with completion prior to April 15, 2019. 

The duration of each individual water main shutdown is typically 8 to 10 hours, during the hours of 8 am to 6 pm. Crews will work as efficiently as possibly to limit disruptions. Notice to affected residents and businesses for each water main shutdown will occur approximately 1 day prior and will consist of paper notification placed on the exterior door of the building that faces the street. The notice will include anticipated shutdown date and time period. During the excavation, residents can expect large equipment within the work site, which will temporarily close off vehicle access to that particular street for a day. Temporary road patches will be installed until permanent patching takes place in the spring.

The water main valve repair and replacement will likely affect residents and businesses within several blocks of the following areas:

Lincoln Park:  affects properties several blocks out on either side of 24^th Avenue West between West 3^rd Street and 7^th Street.  This will include properties on 7^th Street, 6^th Street, 5^th Street, 4^th Street, 3^rd Street, 25^th Avenue West, 24^th Avenue West, and 23^rd Avenue West.

Woodland:  affects properties several blocks out on either side of Woodland Avenue from Anoka Street to Chisholm Street.  This will include Chisholm Street, Calvary Road, Austin Street, Redwing Street, Faribault Street, Owatonna Street, Winona Street, Mankato Street, Wabasha Street, Anoka Street, Marshall Street, Northfield Street, Hastings Drive, Ewing Avenue, Kolstad Avenue, Colman Avenue, Elysian Avenue, Rendle Avenue, and Allendale Avenue.

Gary New Duluth: affects properties several blocks both North and South of McCuen Street (Trunk Highway 39) from Commonwealth Avenue to 96^th Avenue West.  This will include Peary Street, Heard Street, McCuen Street, Prescott Street, Proco Court, 99^th Avenue West, 98^th Avenue West, 97^th Avenue West, 96^th Avenue West, Hermann Avenue, Hudson Boulevard.
