The City of Duluth is Seeking Applicants to Fill Vacant Seats on the Natural Resources Commission
[Duluth, MN] The City of Duluth is seeking applicants to fill four vacant seats on the Natural Resources Commission. Applications can be submitted now through May 1, 2019 at the following link:

The City Council established the Natural Resources Commission to expand the Urban Forest Commission’s charge to provide science–based guidance to the mayor and city council on the preservation, protection, restoration, and sustainable management of city-owned and city-managed lands and the regional ecosystems of which they are an integral part.
Specific additional responsibilities for city lands may include:
- Development of recommendations on how to protect, restore, and manage natural resources on city land.
- Solicitation of public input on the protection, restoration, and management of natural resources on city land.
- Guidance on issues, policies, ordinances, and programs pertaining to the protection, restoration and management of trees on city land and, where required by ordinance, on private land.
- Guidance on the composition of the city’s portfolio of green space and adding to or disposing of such properties.
- Guidance on the Duluth Natural Areas Program established by the city to designate, protect, and manage lands of special environmental value.
Requirements:
- Resident of the City of Duluth
- Broad experience and expertise in areas such as natural resources management, ecology, forestry, botany, water quality, invasive species and/or wildlife.
- Limited role in regulatory type responsibilities that might constitute a conflict of interest with the City of Duluth.
Time Commitments:
This group will meet on the 1st Wednesday of the month starting in August at 6:00 PM in City Hall. Meetings typically last an hour to an hour and a half and are held at least eleven times per year.
Timeline:
The Commission is seeking four members whose applications will be accepted online now through May 1, 2019. Applicant screening and interviews if necessary will be conducted by administration and City staff in mid-May. Potential commissioners shall be appointed by the Mayor subject to confirmation by the City Council.
