City of Duluth Announces Hiring of Code Compliance Officer

[Duluth, MN] The City of Duluth is proud to announce the hiring of Ian Johnson as its Code Compliance Officer. The Code Compliance Officer is a new position for the City of Duluth and is tasked with enhancing the image and livability of Duluth through fair enforcement of the City's codes and ordinances that are managed within the Clerk's Office. This position will also be conducting community outreach as a part of the Earned Sick and Safe Time ordinance that was adopted by City Council last May.

Ian previously served as a compliance specialist with the Prestige Beverage Group, a wine, and spirits importing company, in Mendota Heights, Minnesota. In that role, he was responsible for ensuring compliance with laws and regulations at the federal, state, and local levels. Prior to his time working in the alcoholic beverages industry, Johnson spent several years working, living, and studying abroad with extended periods spent in Poland and South Korea.

“We are excited to have Ian join our team. This position is an important one for the City of Duluth as we build community relationships and work towards implementation of Earned Sick and Safe Time,” said City Clerk, Chelsea Helmer.

Johnson grew up in Cannon Falls, Minnesota. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Hamline University in Saint Paul and later returned to earn his law degree there as well. He met his English wife while they were both working in Korea and subsequently convinced her to relocate to Minnesota. Together they have two daughters.
