[DULUTH, MN] The Mayor's Office, along with the St. Louis County and the Duluth Police Department, will be hosting a press conference to recognize the successful work of the Duluth Police Department Mental Health Unit.

Over the last 9 years, the Duluth Police Department, along with other community partners, have identified over 100 people with re-occurring police contacts directly related to mental illness, substance use disorders, and/or homelessness. Since the creation of the department's Mental Health Unit in 2018 consisting of two dedicated officers and two embedded social workers, while working in collaboration with other community partners, there has been a 31% reduction in calls for service among those with regular police contacts.
