It is always a tragedy when the death of a person occurs in our City. We know it greatly impacts family, friends, and neighbors. The Duluth Police Department investigates all deaths and takes these cases very seriously. We ask that people allow us to complete an accurate and thorough investigation and refrain from spreading rumors via social media. We will provide information as soon as we are able. However, in the meantime, we must limit the details to ensure the validity of the information we receive and to not negatively impact the investigation.
On 5/27/2019 DPD responded to the report of the sound of a gunshot at a residence at 2122 W 3rd St. Upon arrival officers located a 16 year old male, later identified as Ausineese Aubin Dufault, who was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound to the head. An investigation of the scene was immediately conducted by Crime Scene Unit investigators and the Violent Crimes Unit. Evidence was collected and the body was sent to Midwest Medical Examiners to conduct an autopsy and laboratory testing. Today, we received a preliminary report confirming the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the head, however the manner of death is still pending further investigation. We will provide more details as they become available.
The victim in the shooting has been identified as Ausineese Aubin Dufault. We will continue to update the community as the investigation progresses.
[DULUTH, MN] Officers responded to the report of a gunshot heard at the 2100 Block of W 3rd St on 5/27/19 at 2:47 AM. Upon arrival, officers located a deceased 16 year old male victim. Investigators are actively reviewing the scene and believe there is no threat to the public. Being this is currently an active investigation in the early stages, we will provide an update when more information becomes available.
