Sea Wall Rehabilitation Project Working Towards Completion
[Duluth, MN] The end of the Sea Wall Rehabilitation Project is near. The final phase of the project includes installing a storm water outfall, concrete patios, sidewalks, curbs, bike path, and seeding turf areas. Work will begin on Monday, June 3rd and is expected to last until before Grandma’s Marathon on June 21st.
During this time, the Minnesota Slip Bridge will be closed to pedestrian traffic due to work being done throughout the immediate area. Marine traffic will not be affected by this work.
“We realize this will be an inconvenience for pedestrian access from the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center (DECC) to Canal Park, but once we finish these last few weeks of the Sea Wall Rehabilitation Project, the new and improved dock walls along Minnesota Slip and behind the DECC should be a welcome improvement for the public enjoyment of that area for decades to come,” said Property and Facilities Manager, Erik Birkeland. “We are looking forward to completing this project.”
The Sea Wall project has totaled $7.2 million to date and was paid for in part from a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency and the DECC. Less than 8% of the entire project was matched by the City, which will include an ordinance that will be introduced to City Council on June 10th requesting $700,000 to complete the project.
