Duluth Police identify individuals in Wednesday afternoons attempted murder/attempted suicide.
Kay Marie Peterson, age 50, is currently on life support in St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth with multiple gunshot wounds to the head. Her husband, Michael William Peterson, age 56, is currently on life support in St. Mary’s Medical Center with a single gunshot wound to the head.
Early investigation shows that Michael Peterson was likely the shooter. At this time it is too early for police to speculate on the motive. The Peterson’s were married and living together.
A small caliber semi automatic handgun was recovered at the scene which police believe was used in the shooting. Tests will be done on the gun to confirm this.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing and police will release additional details as they become available. The Duluth Police Department extends its thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of the Peterson’s during this unfortunate incident.
At this time the Peterson Family requests privacy during this sad and unfortunate time and will not be speaking with the media. The family requests that the media directs all inquiries to Duluth Police Public Information Officer Brad Wick at (218) 390-2217. Thank you for honoring this request.
