Phase II of the Lakewalk Reconstruction to Begin

[Duluth, MN] Phase II of the Lakewalk Reconstruction project will begin on June 24th, 2019. Phase II involves the reconstruction of the shoreline from Fitger’s to the Northland Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The asphalt and boardwalk trails will be replaced during this phase.

Crews will be onsite removing debris from the Lakewalk beginning on June 17, so that the public can access the trails safely. Wayfinding signs have been placed around the Lakewalk construction zone sharing detour routes with the public.

The reconstruction is a result of three consecutive, destructive storms that occurred in the past two years, October 2017, April 2018 and October of 2018. Thanks to funding from Federal and State disaster declarations, the City of Duluth has redesigned the Lakewalk with climate resiliency in mind.

Phase II is expected to be complete by the beginning of August, at which time the Lakewalk will reopen to the public.
