City to Host First Street Traffic Study Public Open House
[Duluth, MN] The City of Duluth will be conducting a traffic study on First Street from Mesaba Avenue to 24th Avenue East. First Street currently is two-way in some sections and a one-way in others. Directional changes often lead to driver confusion and safety issues along the corridor. As a part of the City’s recently adopted comprehensive plan, Imagine Duluth 2035, this street was included as an area that needed to be analyzed, hence the traffic study.
Because of the two-way conversion study, the City is currently working with a consultant to collect information about the street, develop traffic forecasts, and identify opportunities to convert the street into a two-way configuration along the entire length. As part of this process, City staff will be hosting a Public Open House focusing on the section of the street from Mesaba Avenue to 6th Avenue East on Thursday, June 27, from 4:30-6:00 p.m., in Room 303 of City Hall, 411 West 1st Street. The Open House will allow staff to share the data collected to date and gather additional input. A brief presentation will be given at 5:00 p.m.; however, the public can attend the meeting at any time.
City staff will host another open house, for the portion of the street from 6th Avenue E to 24th Avenue East in July.
