DPL EVENTS MONDAY, JULY 29 – FRIDAY, AUGUST 2

[Duluth, MN] -- All Duluth Public Library events are free and open to the public.

Monday, July 29 at Main Library – 520 West Superior Street
A Joyous Way to Learn - Music Play and Reading Play to Promote Readiness, Literacy and Inclusion in Story Time Presented by Jim Gill – 1:00 – 4:00 pm: In this energizing session Jim Gill will share examples of his work – both books and songs – that teachers and care providers can bring back to their classrooms, playrooms and family rooms. Most importantly, Jim will discuss how his unique creations in music play inspire young children not only to move but to regulate their movements, not only to sing but to make connections between the words they sing and the printed word and the world of numbers. Jim will discuss how a play-based program provides an inclusive environment for children with special needs and share thoughts based on his work with children of all ability levels. In the Green Room.

Tuesday, July 30 at Main Library – 520 West Superior Street
Kaleidoscope: Jim Gill – 10:30 am and 1:30 pm: Jim Gill, an award-winning musician and author, offers more than a show to watch. Each concert is an opportunity for family play! In concert, Jim strums energetic rhythms on his banjo while everyone claps, sings, dances and even sneezes along to the silly and inspiring musical games that he creates. The concert will feature songs from his newest CD release, Vote For Jim Gill! Jim will also lead families in active favorites such as “Spin Again” and his “Silly Dance Contest!” Jim Gill’s distinctive music play creates a family room experience wherever the concert is held. Come and join in the fun! On the library plaza. Details at http://www.duluthlibrary.org.
