Duluth Recommends New Fire Chief
[Duluth, MN] The City of Duluth is announcing its recommendation for Fire Chief: Shawn Krizaj. Krizaj has worked with the Duluth Fire Department for almost 22 years, as a deputy chief, technical services coordinator, captain, fire equipment operator and firefighter.
The City conducted a search for a new fire chief in June of this year. There was a strong pool of applicants, but Krizaj rose to the top.
“Shawn has been an incredible asset to the Duluth Fire Department,” Mayor Emily Larson said. “Through his leadership with emergency management, tribal relationships at Fond du Lac, and his twenty two years of service to the City of Duluth, he is looked at across the state as a leader in his field. We are very excited to have him serve in this role.”
“I am honored to be selected as the Fire Chief. I have spent the last 25 years working in public safety and am ready to take the next step in my career. I am excited to move the department forward,” Krizaj said.
Krizaj takes over the department with eight fire stations, two fire divisions (Life Safety and Operations), and will oversee 146.5 employees.
A resolution to appoint Krizaj will be presented at City Council on August 26, 2019.
