Community Invited to attend Tribal Flag Ceremony

[Duluth, MN] The City of Duluth and the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa invite the community to a Tribal Flag Ceremony on Monday, October 28th, at 2:00 p.m. in the Mayor’s Reception Room at City Hall.

Members of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa will install the Tribal Flag. The Flag Ceremony will include a land acknowledgment, flag installation by the Fond du Lac Honor Guard, Flag and Honor Song by the Cedar Creek Drum Group, and remarks from Mayor Emily Larson and Chairman Kevin Dupuis.

The flag will be displayed prominently in the Duluth Council Chambers, as a reminder that our communities thrive better together.  "My community is committed to building bridges with our friends and neighbors in Duluth.  It is our hope, that this flag will serve as a strong foundation for unity between the City and the Band and be a constant reminder that much more can be accomplished together," said Chairman Kevin Dupuis.

About Fond du Lac Lake Superior Chippewa

The Fond du Lac Band (Nagaajiwanaang; where the water stops) is one of six Chippewa Indian Bands that make up the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe.  The Fond du Lac Reservation was established by the La Pointe Treaty of 1854.  Archaeologists, however, maintain that ancestors of the present-day Chippewa (Ojibwe) have resided in the Great Lakes areas since 800 A.D.  The Band includes 4,200 members
