History of Duluth’s Performing Arts Mural to be Unveiled on November 1st
Press Conference
November 1st, 2019 at 10:00 a.m.
NorShor Theatre 3rd Floor Skywalk
[Duluth, MN] The City of Duluth and the Duluth Public Arts Commission (DPAC) would like to invite the public to the art unveiling of the ‘History of Duluth’s Performing Arts’ mural at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow in the NorShor Theatre third floor skywalk.
Susan Prentice Martinsen’s mural was selected as the finalist from a request for proposals made in 2018 by DPAC. The intent of commissioning artwork was based on DPAC’s mission to foster arts development and to share the history of theater and the arts in Duluth. The NorShor Theatre was a location that the Commission had targeted with its grand opening in 2018, and Theatre had asked to have the art placed in the newly created skywalk.
The mural is made up of sixteen pieces of 8’ x 4’ pieces of plywood that were created in Martinsen’s studio in Ashland, Wisconsin. The installation process began on October 26th and will be finished on November 1st.
Speakers at the press conference will include City Councilor Gary Anderson, DPAC Commissioner Sandy Johnson, Christine Seitz, and Susan Martinsen, who was the artist of the mural.
Walking/ Parking Directions: The NorShor Theatre’s doors will be open at 9:30 am, please take the guest elevator or stairs to 3N. Parking directions: Park in the Sheraton ramp, enter by Greysolon Ballroom, and take a right into the NorShor.
