INCIDENT LOCATION:

[DULUTH, MN] On February 6th, 2020, Alexander Taylor, 45, of Duluth, was convicted by a jury in St. Louis County Court on two felony counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person. Taylor’s conviction was the result of an investigation by the Lake Superior Drug and Violent Crime Task Force.

On August 13th, 2019 Task Force investigators and the Duluth Police Department Tactical Response Team executed a search warrant at a residence in the 100 block of North 19th Avenue West in Duluth. Task Force investigators had determined that Taylor was in the residence and had an active felony warrant for his arrest for Threats of Violence. Investigators also believed that Taylor was armed with a firearm. During the execution of the search warrant to find and arrest Taylor, Taylor fled his residence and entered a neighbors residence where he was taken into custody by police. Police recovered a loaded rifle from the neighbors residence in the area Taylor had fled. Police also recovered a handgun and ammunition from Taylor’s residence. DNA testing on both firearms matched a sample of DNA collected from Taylor by police.

Taylor has an extensive criminal history which includes prior convictions for Felony Child Abuse (2011), Felony Domestic Assault (2007), Fleeing Police in a Motor Vehicle (2002), 2nd Degree Assault (2002), 2nd Degree Assault (2002), 3rd Degree Assault (2000) and Drive By Shooting (1997). Due to Taylor’s previous violent crime convictions he is prohibited from possessing firearms or firearm ammunition.

Taylor’s sentencing hearing is to be determined.
