Construct Tomorrow Press Conference: Tuesday, February 25

[Duluth, MN] Local leaders will hold a press conference tomorrow, February 25, at 10:00 am at the DECC in Paulucci Hall to discuss Construct Tomorrow and the Duluth Construction Career Night events.

Construct Tomorrow is a two-day event that provides area high school students with hands-on opportunities to experience work performed in different building and construction trades. Students will visit with 13 stations staffed by representatives from 11 local union apprenticeship programs. Students are exposed to earn-as-you-learn apprenticeships that have been in high demand and living wage careers that are vital to the economic growth of Duluth and our region.

Over 1,400 students from over 26 schools, including five new attendees, Southridge, McGregor, Cherry, Maranatha Academy, and Grand Rapids Youth Build, will be in attendance this year. All ISD709 10th graders will be in attendance on February 25th, and 25 other schools will go through the event on the 26th.

In addition to Construct Tomorrow, there is a separate event that is open to the public to attend, called the Duluth Construction Career Night. The event will be located at the DECC in Paulucci Hall from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. This is an excellent way for those who are interested in a career in construction or the trades to talk to union representatives from ten different fields while getting to try hands-on activities that they could do in the work environment. The event is free, and all are welcome to attend.

This year is positioning to be one of the busiest construction years that Duluth has seen in decades. The Construct Tomorrow events and Duluth Construction Career Night are great ways to connect students and adults to career paths that will help to fill current workforce needs while building the future of this workforce.
