NATURE OF INCIDENT: Structure fire
CASE NO.: 20-003593
INCIDENT DATE: 4/5/2020
INCIDENT TIME: 1:06 AM
INCIDENT LOCATION: 305 N. 22nd Ave W.

At 1:06 this morning, the Duluth Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 305 N. 22nd Ave West. Fire units were advised by the Duluth Police Department that there were two occupants outside of the house.

Arriving units found heavy fire venting out windows on the first floor. The initial company went inside the home to check for additional occupants and to extinguish the fire. The second arriving company began assessment of the homeowners who had sustained burn injuries as a result of the fire. Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service arrived on scene, was briefed and assumed medical care for both patients.

Fire crews quickly knocked down the fire, completed a thorough search of the home and began assessing the building for fire extension. A Duluth Fire Department Fire Investigator was called to the scene to determine cause of fire. The fire is under investigation, and any inquiries relating to this incident should be directed to the Duluth Fire Department Fire Marshal's Office.

There were two civilian injuries to report. Both victims were treated on scene and were taken by ambulance to Essentia Health-St. Mary's Hospital. There were no firefighter injuries to report. Damage to the building and contents are estimated at $75,000.

Fire companies from Lincoln Park, Downtown and Spirit Valley stations responded to this incident. The Duluth Police Department was on scene to assist in patient care and traffic control. Minnesota Power arrived to discontinue electrical service to the building.
