Portions of Lower Michigan Street to Close for Gas Line Construction

[Duluth, MN] Beginning Monday, May 4th, Lower Michigan Street will be closed to all traffic between 16th Avenue West and 19th Avenue West.  The City of Duluth’s contractors, U.P.I. and Northland Constructors, will relocate a 1,300 foot segment of a gas main to accommodate the Twin Ports Interchange project improvements.  The project will limit access, allowing only local traffic between 16th Avenue West and the Superior Street intersection near the M & H.  Motorists will be directed to use the detour route established on Superior Street and 20th Avenue West during the pipeline construction.  Pedestrians using the Cross City trail paralleling Lower Michigan Street can still enjoy use of the trail during most of the project, with some short term trail re-routes to Michigan Street expected later in May.  This area of Lower Michigan Street is projected to re-open in the middle of June after pavement restoration occurs.
