SUBJECT: Police Arrest Greysolon Building Burglar
BY: Public Information Officer Brad Wick

NATURE OF INCIDENT: Greysolon Building Burglary
CASE NO.: 09334029
INCIDENT DATE: 8/6/2009
INCIDENT TIME: 2111 Hours
INCIDENT LOCATION: 231 East Superior Street

On Thursday, August 6, 2009, at 9:11 pm, the Duluth Police responded to the Greysolon Building at 231 East Superior Street on a burglar alarm going off at the business. The alarm had been installed there recently due to an increase in burglaries to the business.

Duluth Police officers were quickly on scene and observed an individual inside the business walking toward an exit door. This individual, later identified as Willie Yancey Cannon, age 48 of DULUTH, spotted the officers outside and retreated back into the business. At this time officers were unable to make contact with Cannon because the door into the building was locked. Cannon then exited the business through another door and was taken into custody by officers.   Cannon was transported to the St. Louis County Jail where he was lodged and charged with 3rd Degree Burglary.

This burglary is still under investigation by the Duluth Police Property Crimes Unit. The Property Crimes Unit is also looking into whether Cannon was involved in any of the prior burglaries to the business.
