Duluth residents collects 29.97 tons of road sand

[Duluth, MN] The City of Duluth would like to thank residents for collecting 29.97 tons of road sand during a four week collection period in April. Five collection sites were placed throughout Duluth to collect sand leftover from the winter months that would have otherwise washed into streams and damaged critical trout habitat. In 2019, the City collected 5.89 tons of sand.

“Every pound of sand collected through this drive is a pound that doesn’t end up in Lake Superior, and within our trout streams,” said Chris Kleist, City of Duluth Utility Operations Supervisor. “We can’t thank residents enough for their hard work and dedication to our water resources by collecting the sand and bringing it collection sites.”
