Duluth Couple help police nab burglars

On Wednesday, June 30th, 2010, at approximately 12:48 a.m., a Duluth Police Officer was flagged down in Morgan Park by a female citizen who stated that she and her husband had just observed some individuals prowling vehicles in the 1100 Block of 86th Avenue West alley. The female told the officer that the individuals were last seen running towards the Good Fellowship Center and that her husband was out on foot trying to see where they went.

The officer headed toward the Good Fellowship Center and found the husband nearby who stated that he saw the suspects run towards the Good Fellowship Center and he could hear banging coming from the building.

The officer relayed the information to responding squads and began checking the building. As the officer was approaching the building, an adult male and a juvenile male ran out of it, at which time the officer instructed them to stop and get on the ground. The adult male stopped while the juvenile male continued to run but was detained by the husband who was still nearby. The two were then taken into custody without incident.

It was determined that the two had broken into and burglarized the Good Fellowship Center and were also involved in prowling vehicles in the area.

Craig Allen Schilling (see attached photo), age 20 of Duluth, was lodged at the St. Louis County Jail pending formal charges for Third Degree Burglary, Third Degree Criminal Damage to Property, Possession of Stolen Property, and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor. The 16 year old Duluth male was lodged at the Arrowhead Juvenile Center and charged with Third Degree Burglary, Third Degree Criminal Damage to Property, Theft, Possession of Stolen Property, Underage Consumption, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Curfew Violation.

The investigation into the burglary and vehicle prowls continues. The Duluth Police Department would like to thank this alert Duluth couple who were aware of recent vehicle prowls in their area and watching for anything or anyone suspicious in their neighborhood. Without their help police would not have located the two suspects in the act of burglarizing the Good Fellowship Center. This is the second incident in the past week where Duluth Police were able to arrest suspects with the help of observant citizens.
