City to purge natural gas from a pipe segment at Garfield Avenue and I-35

[Duluth, MN] City of Duluth Operations staff will be purging natural gas from a segment of pipe located at Garfield Avenue and I-35 tomorrow, June 16. If residents notice a sulfur smell, please do not be alarmed as this is an expected result of releasing methane into the air. Purging natural gas from pipelines is standard practice before a large construction project takes place. This practice allows for welding on the pipes to occur after the gas has been released into the atmosphere. Crews will be onsite during the purge and will monitor the situation. The removal will begin in the morning and expected to take four hours to release the gas from this specific location.
