FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DPL’s Kaleidoscope summer performances move online for 2020
[DULUTH, MN] - For over 40 years, the Duluth Public Library along with the Port of Duluth Kiwanis, the Friends of the Duluth Public Library, and the Duluth Library Foundation have welcomed thousands of kids and their caregivers to the library plaza to enjoy free entertainment throughout the summer. Kaleidoscope has welcomed performances by musical acts like the Okee Dokee Brothers and the Teddy Bear Band, comics like Kenny Ahern, magicians like Brodini and Jerry Frasier, Juggling Comics like Sean Emery and Tuey, and so many more.
This year the library was more determined than ever to continue the tradition of Kaleidoscope—even faced with the challenges of a the temporary closure of the Duluth Public Library and state and local health official guidelines prohibiting large gatherings. This year the performances won’t happen in-person on the concrete stage, but from the comfort of home.
The number of Kaleidoscope performances in the summer series has decreased, but the Duluth Public Library is hopeful that the performances that once took place on Tuesday mornings at 10:30 am and 1:30 pm and have moved online for virtual performances and will be accessible for 5 days – 24 hours a day—may bring a new audience to the Kaleidoscope fun.
Youth Services Senior Library Technician, Heidi Harrison, says, "We love seeing all of the kids’ faces and hearing them respond to live performances each year! Even though we are sad that won't happen in 2020, the ability to bring Kaleidoscope into homes is exciting in a new way."
The first virtual Kaleidoscope performance is from Dazzling Dave; a Yo-Yo Master. You can find Dazzling Dave’s performance online from Wednesday, June 24 at 8:30 am to Sunday, June 28 at 11:59 pm.
Next month, James Wedgwood will perform for us LIVE on Wednesday, July 22 at 11:00 am on DPL's Facebook page, and that video will be available until Sunday, July 26. His family friendly show will delight and surprise all ages as James blends amazing technical skill seamlessly with quick wit and wacky wooden friends.
