NATURE OF INCIDENT: Structure fire
CASE NO.: 20-7732
INCIDENT DATE: 7/24/2020
INCIDENT TIME: 11:28 PM
INCIDENT LOCATION: 427 N 9th Ave E

At 2328 tonight, the Duluth Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 427 N 9th Ave E. While en route a report was given of someone hanging from a second floor window of a two-story single family home. Upon arrival we found a person hanging from the window. Duluth Police Officers were trying to calm the victim while a ladder was being put in place. Fire crews successfully removed the victim from the window. The victim suffered some abrasions and smoke inhalation, but refused transport from medical personnel.

Heavy smoke and visible fire were encountered on the rear side of the house. Crews entered the house and began fire attack. The main body of fire was knocked down, while additional crews completed primary and secondary searches. The searches confirmed there were no other occupants in the house.

Initial damage estimates were determined to be $75,000 for room and contents. The tenant was unable to remain in the house due to extensive smoke and heat damage. The Duluth Fire Marshal's office is continuing to investigate the cause and origin of the fire. Any further information pertaining to the fire will come from that office. There were no additional civilian or firefighter injuries.

Fire companies from Headquarters, U.M.D, and Lincoln Park Stations responded to this incident. We were assisted by Duluth Police Department and Mayo Clinic Ambulance and remained on scene for two hours.
