Primary Election Reminders for Voters
[Duluth, MN] In preparation for the upcoming primary election, the City of Duluth wants to share the following tips with voters to ensure a safe and successful election.
Absentee Ballots
If you have requested an absentee mail-in ballot, please submit your ballot as soon as possible. You can check your ballot status by visiting https://mnvotes.sos.state.mn.us/AbsenteeBallotStatus.aspx Ballots can be delivered to City Hall between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 8th and between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Monday, August 10th. City Hall will also be open for early voting during these times.
On Election Day, ballots can be hand-delivered to City Hall until 3:00 p.m. Ballots cannot be returned to precincts.
Ballots that are post-marked on or before Election Day will be accepted until the close of business on August 13, 2020.
Voting on Election Day
If you choose to vote in-person, please expect delays due to health and safety measures put in place in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Please be prepared to wait in line as needed to accommodate social distancing.
Masks are required in polling locations in accordance with the Governor’s Executive Order 20-81. Disposable masks will also be available and provided to voters as needed.
The following additional health and safety protocols have been implemented by the City for Election Day:
- Election workers are required to wear face coverings, follow all physical distancing guidelines, and wash their hands regularly during their shifts.
- Masks will be provided to any voter who does not have one. If a voter is exempt from the executive order, election workers will offer curbside service, so the individual does not have to enter the building to vote.
- Polling places will be disinfected (all surfaces and any areas that a voter may touch).
- Clear entrance and exit lines will be established to allow for physical distancing and separation.
- Election workers will monitor the line to ensure that a 6-foot separation between voters is maintained.
- Pens will be controlled and disinfected. Voters can choose to bring their own pens as well.
- Hand sanitizer will be available for voters to use if they would like to. They will be encouraged to use it upon entering and exiting the voting room.
All-City of Duluth precincts will open at 7:00 a.m. on Election Day, and close at 8:00 p.m.
