City to begin traffic signal replacement on Woodland and Kent on August 17

[Duluth, MN] The City of Duluth will begin the process of replacing the traffic signal at the intersection of Woodland Avenue, Kent Road, and East 8th Street on Monday, August 17. The existing signal has reached the end of its life expectancy and needs to be replaced. The project will consist of removing the current signal system and replacing it with a new signal system that will include Accessible Pedestrian Signals (APS) and Emergency Vehicle Preemption (EVP) improvements. The adjacent pedestrian curb ramps will also be updated and will comply with current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance.

Starting on Monday, August 17, East 8th Street and Kent Road will be closed to Woodland Avenue. Motorists will need to use alternate routes to access Woodland Avenue from East 8th and Kent Road. The left-turn lanes on Woodland Avenue to Kent Road and East 8th Street will also be closed. Traffic control will change as different stages of the project are under construction. Motorists should pay attention to and follow the construction signage within the area. The project is expected to be complete by October 23.
