NATURE OF INCIDENT: Structure fire
CASE NO.: 20-00008726
INCIDENT DATE: 8/17/2020
INCIDENT TIME: 20:48
INCIDENT LOCATION: 4626W. 5th St

This evening, the Duluth Fire Department responded to the report of a structure fire and possible explosion in at 4626 W. 7th Street. Initial reports were that there was an explosion behind the house.

Crews arrived on scene to find that a propane grill cylinder had indeed exploded and the resulting fire had entered the attic of the residence through the eaves. After determining that all occupants were safely out of the house, the fire was located and quickly extinguished. Crews were sent to the roof to cut a hole to vent out the heat and smoke. Fire damage was limited to the upstairs, particularly inside void spaces. After checking for fire extension, efforts to minimize water damage to the house and any personal belongings were made.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Duluth Fire Department Fire Marshal's Office. Any inquiries relating to this incident should be directed to the Fire Marshal's Office.

There were no injuries to report. Damages to the home are estimated at $30,000.

Fire companies from Spirit Valley, Lincoln Park and Downtown responded to this incident. Duluth Police, Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service and Duluth Comfort Systems were on scene and rendered assistance as needed.
