Duluth Indigenous Commission to host virtual Indigenous Peoples’ Day celebration

[Duluth, MN] The Duluth Indigenous Commission will hold a virtual celebration for Indigenous Peoples’ Day on Monday, October 12.

The virtual event will begin at 12:00 pm with an Indigenous Peoples’ Day proclamation and include Hand Drummer Jeremy Davis, Eagle Staff carriers Shawn Carr and Pat St. Germaine, and speaker and spiritual advisor Rick Defoe.

“Every day and at every moment we are on Indigenous lands and so we are proud and excited to be here celebrating Indigenous Peoples’ Day on the land our ancestors stood on,” shared members of the Duluth Indigenous Commission said. “We must acknowledge and honor the history of this region, the strong and resilient Indigenous peoples, and cultures that have always been here and who are very much still here today.”

Due to COVID-19, the celebration will be streamed on the City’s Facebook page. As a reminder, you do not need to have a Facebook account to be able to access the stream. The link to the City’s Facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/City-of-Duluth-MN-Government-197321860309981/ .

Biindigen! All are welcome and we look forward to virtually celebrating together!
