Aerial Lift Bridge and Enger Tower to be lit in purple as a moment of unity
[Duluth, MN] The Aerial Lift Bridge and Enger Tower will be lit in purple tonight, November 19, as a moment of unity to honor those who have been lost from COVID-19 and to thank frontline workers for fighting the pandemic. These structures will be lit at the request of the Governor’s Office as a part of their #MNTogether campaign.
“Tonight, understanding the additional sacrifice that we are making (in regards to Governor Walz’s new Executive Orders), we are choosing to light Enger Tower and the Aerial Lift Bridge purple,” Mayor Larson said. “This is a color that unites Minnesota in a lot of different ways and is a visual reminder that this is another phase that we are entering. We want to remember those who have left us, and we want to prevent that number from getting any higher. We also want to light the bridge to thank frontline workers and healthcare workers for their service.”
The Aerial Lift Bridge and Enger Tower were lit in blue on April 9 as a part of a worldwide campaign called #LightItBlue to recognize healthcare providers and essential workers. On April 10, Mayor Emily Larson requested that the Bridge be lit in purple for several weeks as a way to spread joy throughout the Duluth community.
