SUBJECT: Maintenance work to begin on the Aerial Lift Bridge on Monday, January 25
BY: Kate Van Daele, Public Information Officer
Maintenance work to begin on the Aerial Lift Bridge on Monday, January 25
[Duluth, MN] Beginning Monday, January 25, traffic across the Aerial Lift Bridge will be limited to one lane to accommodate maintenance work being done in the shipping off-season. Crews will be working in ten hours shifts to complete the work as soon as possible in an effort to minimize the amount of disruptions to neighboring communities. Traffic will be limited to one lane between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Traffic flow across the bridge will be controlled by the traffic lights onsite. Contractors working on the bridge require it to be in a raised position for twenty minutes at a time. After each twenty-minute lift, the bridge will be lowered, and traffic will be restored for fifteen to twenty minutes before lifting for another twenty minutes again.
While this work is being done, the portside sidewalk will be closed to pedestrian traffic. It will remain closed until work is complete. This is due to materials being stored on the sidewalk.
To determine if the bridge is lifted or not, please visit the Duluth Harbor Cam website at www.duluthharborcam.com.
