Warming Center remains open on extended hours due to the cold
[Duluth, MN] Due to continued dangerously cold temperatures, the Warming Center will remain open for the week of February 8. Expanded hours will continue for as long as daytime highs remain at zero degrees. The Center will open at 6:00 p.m. and close at 10:00 a.m. today through Friday, February 12. The Center will be open for 24 hours on Saturday and Sunday.
Last week, the Center saw a large increase in the number of people utilizing the space. Thirty-seven people were the highest number of guests that used the space at one-time. Center staff and community advocates are working hard to bring people inside from the cold and provide them with warm clothes and outer gear.
The Warming Center is located in the Rainbow Center at 211 North 3rd Avenue East. CHUM’s Drop-In space continues to be open 24- hours a day and is another location where people can get out of the elements. The Warming Center is a safe and welcoming nighttime space where people experiencing homelessness and other people in need can stay warm.
