Duluth Fire Department responds to third structure fire in less than a week

[Duluth, MN] At 4:07 a.m. this morning, the Duluth Fire Department responded to a structure fire call at 2232 Hoover Street. While in route, crews received a call that flames were reported to be coming out of the structure. Due to advanced fire conditions, Command initiated a second alarm.

When crews arrived, the rear of the house was engulfed in flames. Due to fire also coming from the front of the house, fire crews were not able to make an entry. With the home fully engulfed in fire, crews focused their attention on protecting adjacent structures.

Due to the early hour of the incident, reporting of the fire was delayed, which caused advanced fire conditions. The fire started in the basement and extended to the rest of the house before crews arriving.

Crews were on scene for several hours extinguishing the embedded fire. Crews continued to go back to the location to ensure that all hot spots had been extinguished.

The occupant of the home was able to self-evacuate, and there were no injuries reported to firefighters or the public.

The Duluth Fire Marshal has ruled the cause of the fire as accidental. The house has been condemned by the Life Safety division.

The house has been determined to be a total loss. Damage estimates exceed $200,000 for the home and its contents.

Crews from Headquarters, Spirit Valley, Lincoln Park, and Duluth Heights all responded. The Duluth Police Department, Comfort Systems, and Minnesota Power all assisted.
